As an intern I worked as an integral part of the three-member Hong Kong web team. I was responsible for editing and producing stories, updating The Page politics blog every day, keeping the site up to date with breaking news and pitching, reporting and writing news, life, travel and arts stories. I was published online and in both the Asia and U.S. editions of the magazine. I was also the first intern to build a flash graphic.
NEWSMIXER
09/08 – 12/08
As the co-leader of Medill’s New Media Publishing Project I worked with a team of six students from journalism and computer programming backgrounds to create NewsMixer, the “conversations around news” website. I designed the look and feel of the site, and worked with the software developers to make the vision live. I also completed user interface and industry research.
NEWS 21 CARNEGIE AND KNIGHT FOUNDATIONS FELLOWSHIP
06/08 – 09/08
I spent one week in rural Appalachia co-reporting a story on the Tennessee Valley Authority. From more than 20 video and audio interviews we crafted a written story, four audio stories, more than 35 audio and video clips and an audio-photo slideshow. I designed and produced the multimedia presentation using Adobe Flash. I also produced two flash presentations to accompany other fellow’s projects.

As Editor-in-Chief I was responsible for all content on the website. I recruited a network of more than 40 bloggers, edited and produced content and worked closely with the publisher to consistently better the site.

As an intern for the digital media department’s continuous news desk, I wrote stories for the website, edited wire stories, repurposed radio scripts for the web, produced news content, created timelines and sidebars, edited photos, and reported and produced an audio story for Intern Edition.

In addition to writing articles on the environment, defense, education and healthcare for the national wire service, I wrote locally focused stories for the Kitsap Sun in Bremerton, Wash. and the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, Colo.
